There is definitely no shortage of ways to make money online and adding affiliate income to your other streams of income is a great way for new and veteran marketers alike to capitalize on selling information products without actually having to create a product themselves. There is an ebb and flow to affiliate marketing. Some weeks you’ll make a lot of money and other weeks you will earn next to nothing.In this post I will be sharing with you the most important concepts that I’ve learned through my own affiliate promotions that you can start implementing today to get more sales.
7 Quick Lessons For Increasing Your Affiliate Income
Lesson 1: Build A List
The real secret to increasing your affiliate income is: Build a list around a niche and promote products that solve their problems.
That’s really it!
You don’t need some fancy course or product to teach you how to do affiliate marketing or increase your affiliate income. All you need to have is a passion for the topic and a way to collect and capture contact information of people who share the same interest. It doesn’t matter if you are a blogger, a network marketers, affiliate marketer or product owner; the key to success online is to have a list that targets a specific niche.
Do not expect to just make a ton of money right off the bat. It takes months and even years to produce a sizable list and even more time to develop relationships with your subscribers so that they feel like they trust your recommendations. It is important to always maintain some form of regular and contact with your subscribers .
Affiliate marketing can be profitable, but you need to build a list – one person at a time. I’ve build my list by creating content. I’ve worked hard writing articles, developing eBooks, and creating videos to attract people to this list.
Though it takes a lot of effort to generate interest for your site, listing building is the best way to make affiliate income online.
Now you may be a little overwhelmed by the amount of work it takes to build an affiliate business, but if you are able to build enough subscribers, you can practically create money on demand. When you discover a quality offer that will be of value to your list all you have to do is whip up a quick email and you’ll generate an income.
An email list is an incredible asset. The key is to be careful with this asset. Give lots of value to your subscribers and make sure to only promote affiliate products when you think it will significantly change their lives.
The real money in affiliate marketing comes from building a lists of fans who act upon your recommendations. As we all know the best prospects are the ones that actually buy stuff. I’ll talk about how to make this happen in the next lessons…
Lesson 2: Lead With Value
A responsive list begins and ends with your content.
You can command any market by being a master at providing value and great content. This includes the FREE content and offers you create as well.
To ensure you are always leading with value consider these 3 steps:
1. The Irresistible Offer
Offer a stellar freebie as a way to get people to subscribe. You have to give to get! Your irresistible offer is known as you “lead magnet” and it can be a free how-to video course, a set of audios, a PDF report, a webinar series or eBook.
The important thing to remember is that your free offer should overwhelm your subscriber with value. I can not emphasize how important this principle this. When creating your irresistible offer, you should actually feel like you are giving away too much information.
When you are done putting together your offer create a product you could charge for, then give it away for FREE.
Your irresistible offer is a critical component to your success as an affiliate marketer and that’s why you need to make sure you know everything you can about doing business online as an affiliate marketer. Here are two resources to get your started:

2. Build Your Brand With Your Personality
People buy from those they know, like and trust. When you connect with your subscribers and come from a genuine place you instantly create rapport with your readers. Whenever you are writing an email or creating content, talk to your readers like you are speaking to them directly over a cup of coffee. This is a great way to make subscribers feel like they are getting an email from one of their friends.
How can you showcase your personality:
- Be genuine, candid and transparent.
- Tell interesting stories and have fun
- Provide inspirational and motivational messages
- Share your pains, challenges and struggles
- Talk in a conversational tone
- Give readers insight into what is going on in your life
All of these actions will help you to be seen as a real person instead of some random Internet marketer. The more ‘real’ you are, the more your readers will learn to trust what you have to say.
3. Send Quality Emails
Understand that you are not the only marketer out there vying for prospects attention. You will come to realize that the pond is smaller than you actually think, especially among high quality Internet marketers. Those that find success in online maximize on their ability to connect with their list, those that don’t are faced with Internet failure.
As easy as it is for people to opt-in and subscribe to your list, it is even easier for them to unsubscribe from it. Your first priority is giving them what they want, making sure they are happy and look forward to reading your email messages. The best way to be successful as an affiliate marketer is to send high quality, value packed emails every day (or at least 5 days a week). Now you may say this sounds like a lot of work, but it really isn’t. The key to creating a great email is to re-purpose your best content or send an email that links to a video or one of your popular blog posts. Sending subscribers an eBook, worksheet, or step-by-step video tutorial is a great way to provide them with solutions to some of your readers most challenging problems.
Lesson 3: Test Various Offers
People get BORED very quickly! One of the biggest mistakes and one that took me a little while to realize is that you can not and should not keep sending the same offers to your subscribers.
You should rotate your collection of offers and introduce new ones that you can promote on a regular basis. You do not want to send your list the same promotion every week. Why? They’ve either purchased the product or they haven’t and if they are not purchasing the product on email # 10, they are not going to purchase it from you on email #110. Don’t make the same mistake I did by not regularly introducing new products into your affiliate line-up. This can significantly increase your bottom line.
I suggest introducing a new product to your list every month.
Note: You still want to promote the affiliate products that are popular, bringing in money and are of great value but it’s just as important to add some “new flavor” to your affiliate arsenal, because you just never know what your list is going to love. So test different offers, see which ones attract the most attention. Get rid of any offers that your subscribers “don’t respond to” but every once in a while try re-introducing them…the composition of you email list can change and what doesn’t work today may be your biggest seller tomorrow.
Lesson 4: Promote and Market Great Products
To piggy-back on lesson # 3 I do want to mention this. Do not promote just anything. Do not promote products just because they make money…
Promote Products That You Believe In and that solves the troubles the majority of your niche faces. You should always think about your subscribers first, the money should be an afterthought. What is most important is that you recognize a need and fulfill that need. So only look for quality products.
To go one step further, take a close look at the income potential of the affiliate products you are considering. Make sure the products you are promoting have the following:
- A high-converting sales pages
- A sales funnel that upsales the customer or has a back-end offer
- A users friendly affiliate system
- Affiliate tools and marketing resources to help you make more sales
You ultimate goal is to make money, you are not an affiliate marketer that is volunteering your service just for the fun of it. Make sure your affiliate offers meet these criteria so that you are presenting your lists with the best of the best. It will pay off in the long run and it will definitely have an incredible impact on your affiliate earnings!
Lesson 5: Short and Sweet
When it comes time to present your offer to your email list, keep it short and sweet. You don’t have to write a long dissertation trying to convince your readers to purchase the product. You’ve laid the foundation of trust through the valuable content you provide and you’re subscribers should know that you are a reliable source of useful information.
All you need to do is write a simple email that highlights one or 2 benefits then provide the link to the affiliate product. If you’re list is responsive that’s all it takes. If you’ve trained your list to act on your emails because you’ve consistently provided them with value and information that gets them results, you should not have to spend a lot of time putting together an affiliate offer. The work comes in building the relationships. Once this is done all you need to do is drive your list to the affiliate offer and let the sales presentation do the job.
Lesson 6: The Money Is In The Follow-Up
If you get a good response from the first affiliate email offer, send another one. You must learn to follow-up with your list when you have successful campaigns. If an email works, then make sure it gets to the front of your autoresponder sequence. The secret to success in this industry and any other is to stick with what works and chuck the rest. Duplicate what’s working for you and make sure to send it to as many people on your lists as possible.
Lesson 7: Be Consistent
It is very important to capitalize on your results to maximize your affiliate income. When you discover an affiliate product that convert well it is imperative to build on that success by taking immediate and swift action. Don’t sit on the fence while all of the other Internet marketers take your sales. Make sure to promote your product aggressively using every marketing technique you know. Take advantage of the following:
- Social media marketing
- Article marketing
- Video Marketing
- Create content that leverages niche-specific keywords
If you are going to build an affiliate income that is worth taking about, you need to make sure you are doing everything you can to maximize your success. Is it hard work yes, but if you are able to develop a system that gets you results, duplicate it, be consistent and build your affiliate business on step at a time.
